WUSD Tech Handbook :: VC Field Trips
VC Field Trips and Collaborations:

Virtual Field Trips and classroom collaborations via video conference are a new opportunity available to WUSD teachers. Our portable Tandberg video conferencing equipment provides the opportunity to host a virtual field trip or collaboration in your classroom.

Step 1.
Research: Decide the topic and whether you would like to offer a virtual field trip or classroom collaboration in your classroom.

Collaboration:
A classroom is a videoconference exchange between two classrooms. A great place to begin research into a classroom collaboration is the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (www.cilc.org)

Professional Content Providers:
Zoos and museums are examples of content providers that offer IP based videoconferencing. A great place to begin research into a classroom field trip from one of these sources is the VC Content Providers Database

AT&T also offers a directory where you cn search for collaborations as well as content providers called the AT&T Knowledge Network Explorer

  Step 2. Contact IT Department:

Once you have decided on a videoconferencing opportunity you will need to contact the WUSD IT department (pdehombreux@wusd.us).

Note: If the videoconference is from a professional content provider you will need to also consult your principal to approve funding for the purchase.

  Step 3. Schedule and Test

You will be responsible for scheduling the time of the event. In addition, you will need to schedule a test run ahead of the actual event to make sure the equipment is working correctly.

Note: For more information on the portable videoconferencing equipment consult the Tandberg videoconferencing page in this handbook.
