WUSD Tech Handbook :: Computer Access
Computer Access: To log in to any WUSD computer you will need a user name and password. This is provided to you by the principal of your school when you become an employee. The WUSD network uses a server-based profile system. This means you will be able to log onto any computer in the district to save and access your personal documents.

Step 1.
Logging In: These are the basic types of WUSD computers:

Thin Clients:
The Thin Client computers log in will give you access to all of the WUSD network software as well as your documents. It will also give you access to network printers, but not printers physically attached to the Thin Client.

Dell Desktops:

The Dell desktop computers are computers that have been changed to perform like Thin Clients.
To log on to these computers you must first enter a school login:

Once you have logged in there will be an icon on the desktop with the name of thin client server to connect to (ie farm1,2,3,4 or 5). When you click on the server icon you will be asked to log on with your WUSD username and password. This will give you the same access as the Thin Client. A Dell desktop has the additional capability of printing to a local printer physically connected to the computer.

Student Netbooks:
The Student Netbooks are set up like the thin client computers. A WUSD log in will give students (and teachers) access to all of the WUSD software and resources as well as personal documents.

Teacher Laptops:
The Teacher Laptops are differenct from the other three types of computers because they don't rely on computing power from WUSD servers and they store your documents locally as well as syncing your documents with the WUSD servers. When the laptop initially connects to the network it will take some time to sync.
Step 2. Saving Work: Your documents will be saved to your profile on a WUSD server.

My Documents

All of the documents you save on a WUSD computer will need to be saved in the My Documents folder in order for you to have secure access to them.

Note: There is a folder labeled Documents which can be confusing. However, it is not the same as My Documents and is not located in your Libraries folder.

Public Folder
You can save documents in the Public folder so that others can access them. However, documents in the Public folder are not safe and can be easily deleted by anyone.

Logging Off
If you want to save any personal preferences such as changes to the desktop or task bar you will need to choose log off and let the computer complete the log off processs. To log off, click on the start icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
