Tucked in the middle of the valley along White River lies Whiteriver Elementary School, Home of the Jayhawks. Generations of students have enjoyed a stunning view of vermillion cliffs and mesas surrounding the community of Whiteriver from the playground.
Whiteriver Elementary School was considered newly improved in 1959. It was composed of four wings. The first had a principal’s office, a nurse’s office, curriculum office, a teacher’s workroom, library, and four classrooms. The second had a multi-purpose room or cafeteria and seven classrooms. The third had two locker rooms, storage rooms, and five classrooms. The fourth had an industrial arts room, a music room, and three classrooms. Student enrollment was 689 with 27 faculty members.
A new building was constructed in 2004 on the existing site. The building design incorporates internal wings with 37 classrooms, a library, gym, cafeteria, nurse’s office, and main office. Each wing has a staff workroom to allow teachers quick access to resources.
The Whiteriver Elementary School mission is to offer a safe learning environment that guides all students to reach their highest potential.
