For your cap and gowns, there is strictly NO DECORATING the TOP
flat surface of the cap. There are no exceptions. Caps can ONLY have the edges beaded
with beadwork on the edge or a traditional feather can hang with the tassel.
If you are wearing traditional attire, you may walk with your gown unzipped, but if you are not wearing traditional attire, your gown must be zipped up all the way and, as always, AHS dress code standards apply.
The Cap & Gown: More Than Just a Uniform
The cap and gown worn at graduation is one of the oldest and most recognized symbols in education. Its roots stretch back to medieval universities.
Today, the tradition carries forward that same sense of meaning. When you put on your cap and gown, you're joining a long line of graduates who came before you and worked hard to reach this moment. The gown represents the journey — the years of showing up, pushing through hard days, and growing into who you are. The cap, or mortarboard, represents achievement — the knowledge you've built and the future you're stepping into. And the tassel, moved from right to left during the ceremony, marks the exact moment your status changes: from student to graduate.
For Alchesay High School seniors, this ceremony carries special weight. You've walked your path here, in this community, shaped by the land, culture, and people of the Fort Apache Nation. The cap and gown honor that story — and the world you're about to step into.
Wear it with pride. You've earned it.
