McKinney-Vento
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is federal legislation that guarantees educational rights and services for children and youth experiencing homelessness, ensuring their access to immediate enrollment, trandsportation, and other comparable educational services. The Act requires schools to remove barriers to enrollment such as lack of documentation, and allows eligible students to attend either their "school of origin" or the school in their current attendance area.
Private Schools
Title I provides federal funding to support academic programs in high-proverty public schools, and by law, requires that eligible private school students receive comparable, equitable services through their public school district (Local Education Agency or LEA), not directly from private schools themselves. The LEA maintains control of the federal funds and must consult with private schools to develop secular, neutral services, such as tutoring or supplementary instruction, to help private school students meet academic standards.
Neglected & Delinquent
Title I provides federal funding to improve educational services for children and youth in local, tribal, and state instituations for neglected or delinquent children and youth so that such children and youth have the opportunity to meet the same challenging state academic standards that all children in the state are expected to meet;
To provide such children and youth with the services needed tomake a successful transition from institutionalixation to further schooling or employment; and
To prevent at-risk youth from dropping out of school, and to provide dropouts, and children and youth returning from correctional facilities or institutions for neglected or delinquent children and youth, with a support system to ensure their continued education and the involvement of their families and communities.
Parent and Family Engagement
The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) mandates Title I schools to engage parents and families through activities outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This includes fostering regulat, two-way communication, involving families in the child's learning, building trusting school-family relationships, and developing a shared responsibility for student achievement through a School-Parent Compact. ADE provides resources and requirements for schools to implement these engagement policies.
