Hello! I am Leeann Lacapa, the new Superintendent of Whiteriver Unified School District. I am White Mountain Apache, born and raised in Whiteriver, my clan is Bizaaha, born for the Tohono ‘O’odham. I am a proud product of the Whiteriver Unified School District and second-generation graduate of Alchesay High School! After high school I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from The University of Arizona and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. My passion and life’s work has been serving the Whiteriver Unified School District and White Mountain Apache community for 21 years as a Teacher, Coach, Athletic Director, and Principal at Alchesay High School. Working for a district that serves my own children and family members is one of my greatest motivations and drives my work towards continuous improvement.
As the Superintendent, I am excited at the opportunity to create and impact positive change to create a safe, inclusive, equitable and effective learning environment for all students. I believe that if we support teaching and learning by putting proper systems in place and focusing on the right work, we will create a culture of achievement. I look forward to a school year of growing and glowing!
