Located in eastern Arizona on the White Mountain Apache Reservation, the Whiteriver Unified School District has much to offer you. This public school district consists of five schools, including Alchesay High School, Canyon Day Junior High, and three K-6 schools: Whiteriver Elementary, Cradleboard Elementary, and Seven Mile Elementary School. The district also operates a preschool program for handicapped students.
The Whiteriver Unified School District has positive programs to provide the best possible education for students. Included in the special programs are school-wide federal programs, Indian Education programs, a K-3 and middle school At-Risk program, quality vocational and art programs, Alternative School program, Special Education program, and Dropout Prevention projects.
Besides the programs listed above, the district schools have an array of supportive extracurricular activities. There is exciting 3A East Interscholastic competition with nearby schools. The high school has its full share of athletic competition with football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, cross country, baseball, and softball available to our students. The Junior High school competes in an athletic league in football, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, track, and softball. The high school and the middle school support and sponsor a yearbook, band, newspaper, and many clubs to enhance the education of our students.
The district also stresses the preservation of Apache Culture and Language through the classroom and extracurricular activities. Apache teaching assistants are in many classrooms to ensure this and aid the teachers in daily tasks.
