How do I log into the Chromebook?

Open the Chromebook, wait a few seconds and it will turn on. If it doesn’t, the power button is the top right button on the keyboard. Type in your child’s email address – it is in this format – firstname.lastname (John.Smith) and click Next. Then type in the password, which is pass123

 

How do I connect the Chromebook to the internet?

Open the Chromebook, wait for a few seconds and it will turn on. The first screen that comes up should be a list of networks that you can connect the Chromebook to. Choose your network or the mobile hotspot provided by the district. If you are using a mobile hotspot, it is recommended that you do not have any other devices near the hotspot – only the Chromebook.

 

What do I do if I lose Internet connection?

If the Chromebook disconnects from the Internet connection, wait a few moments and a screen will come up asking to connect to the Internet. Choose the correct connection or the hotspot and it will reconnect. You may have to log back into the class or Google Meet.

 

What do I do with the hotspot when I am not using it?

If your child is not using the Chromebook for class or any classwork, turn the hotspot off, so that other devices do not use the data.

 

Does my child have an email address? What is it?

All registered students and staff have a district provided email. It is this: firstname.lastname@wusdstudent.us (john.smith@wusdstudent.us).

 

How does my child check their email? After you turn on the Chromebook and log in using their district log in, click on the Chrome icon at the bottom of the screen. It is the red, green and yellow circle with the blue dot in the middle. After that opens up to a screen with Google in the middle, the click on the word Gmail in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

 

What is Google Classroom?

Google Classroom is a “platform” or program that teachers will use to teach their students virtually. Students will have lessons, activities, homework, etc. provided by their teachers in Google Classroom.

 

How does my child get to Google Classroom?

After you turn on the Chromebook and log in using the district log in, click on the Chrome icon at the bottom of the screen. After the Google screen opens up, in the upper right-hand corner of the screen is a square made up of 9 dots – click on that. Another little screen will open up and Classroom is one of the icons, or pictures, there. Click on the icon that says Classroom. Your child’s teacher will either send you and invite in the email or give you a code to get into Classroom.

 

What is Google Meet?

Google Meet is a program that your child’s teacher can use to teach school through video. It is a Google program.

 

How does my child get into Google Meet?

After you turn on the Chromebook and log in using the district log in, click on the Chrome icon at the bottom of the screen. After the Google screen opens up, in the upper right-hand corner of the screen is a square made up of 9 dots – click on that. Another little screen will open up and Meet is one of the icons, or pictures, there. Your child’s teacher will give you the code or the meeting name you need to get into the meeting.

 

How do I turn the microphone and camera on and off in Google Meet?

When you are in Google Meet, move your mouse to the bottom of the screen. A white bar will appear at the bottom. In the middle are three icons – a microphone, a telephone and a camera. To turn the microphone and camera on or off, simply click on the picture. If it is white, it is on; if it is red, it is off.

 

Is my child’s email safe?

Yes, your child’s email at wusdstudent.us is used for classroom and school email and is only accessible by WUSD students and staff.
